Think Pink: Pinkberry Swirls Into Atlanta

Pinkberry, the heralded tart frozen yogurt chain store, has finally come to roost in Georgia. It opened last week in the Akers Mill Shopping Center.

The yogurt is known throughout the country for its sophisticated and trendy style. Seriously, the brand has a cult-like following, which it even recognizes on its website with a groupie corner. It’s kind of like Starbucks for frozen yogurt.

The Atlanta store’s owner, David Beall, knows a thing or two about brands in the restaurant and hospitality industry. His family owns and operates Blackberry Farms, one of America’s most celebrated small luxury resorts located in the foothills of Tennessee, and founded Ruby Tuesday. His newest venture is a frozen yogurt shop with translucent walls that glow—even cooler is that different lights go on at night. Awash in a pastel palette of green, orange and yellow, Pinkberry’s even hip with its flooring: pebbles to remind you of the beach on a hot summer day.

So what’s so great about another frozen yogurt? Well, first you have to realize that Pinkberry has been around longer than some of its local competitors, and has had time to perfect its premium blend. The chain originated out of West Hollywood in 2005, reviving the fro-yo craze of the ’80s.

Secondly, Pinkberry’s frozen yogurt is good for you. It’s made with real non-fat yogurt and nonfat milk that is rBST hormone free. Pinkberry is certified by the National Yogurt Association and carries the Live & Active Cultures Seal.

The add-ons are healthy, too. Each topping is selected with the highest quality standards, whether it’s Grade-A fresh fruit that is hand-cut daily in-store, organic gummy bears with no high fructose corn syrup, all-natural honey almond granola, 100 percent pure pomegranate juice, or rich, premium Belgian chocolate shavings.

In addition to filling your cup with the standard fro-yo plus toppings, Pinkberry also offers other treats, including parfaits and smoothies.

The Atlanta location serves Pinkberry’s six distinctive flavors: the signature sweet and tangy original flavor; pomegranate, which is made with 100 percent California-grown pure pomegranate juice; coconut, which uses real coconut puree; chocolate; and mango, using authentic Alphonso mango puree.

Pinkberry is located at 2937 Cobb Parkway in the Akers Mill Shopping Center. 770-661-2995. Addicts—ahem, local fans craving up-to-the minute news and discount offers should sign up to be a Pinkberry Groupie at www.pinkberry.com/groupies. The brand can also be found on Facebook and at Twitter @pinkberryswirl.
