Spice Up Your Life

Last night we met some friends at Asada (1238 Dekalb Ave. NE, Candler Park, 404.522.8666). I’d never been, but I’d heard great things about this relatively new joint that offered Southwestern-themed food at much cheaper prices than Agave. Chef Michael Hosp serves up a spicy variety of mouthwatering dishes. The ancho fried boneless chicken breast with green chile gravy, chorizo collard greens, and smoked poblano goat cheese macaroni and cheese is an excellent choice—it’ll bring a slight tear to your eye, but the mac and cheese is there to save your soul. The casual atmosphere makes it easy to change out sides, so those collards can be switched out with something else. The best part of the evening? Discovering that on Tuesdays, the house margaritas are only $3.50, and they go down nice and easy. Asada is open at 5:30 pm Tues.–Sun. for dinner, and closed Mon. It’s also open for brunch on Sun. from 11:30–2:30, with the patio open all afternoon for drinks and light apps.
