Sea You There

As a general rule, I don’t eat seafood. It creeps me out. I wish I could say I was allergic, but I’m a terrible liar. Recently though, I’ve taken issue with my issue with creatures of the sea (which I’m told is far fresher than that chicken I’m so fond of). I started with a small bite of salmon off a friend’s plate about a month ago. I nearly lost it. I waited another couple of weeks until I was faced with a prix fixe menu, and a genormous flank of salmon was set in front of me. I picked at it, but swallowed each bite down with gobs of rice. It was so tender it almost fell off my fork tines, but it was hard for me to appreciate this fact in the midst of my anxiety. Fast-forward to last weekend when I dined at Nickiemoto’s (990 Piedmont Ave. NE, 404.253.2010) where I braved (and admittedly loved) sushi rolls containing raw salmon, tuna, and crab. It was incredibly delicious. Mondays are Drag-A-Maki where drag queens entertain the diners, so I plan to stop back in really soon. Sea you there, I hope.
