Last night my friends and I converged upon Girls Night Out, and though I thought we’d drop by and shop for a little while, we actually stayed for the full five hours. That’s how fun it was for us and the hundreds of others that kept pouring into the Biltmore. The cocktails were flowing (thanks, master mixologist Dave, for all those killer madras/Sprite concoctions you made for us), and we were a lively bunch, swarming around designers’ tables every which way we turned. I was quite impressed with the local talent as well as those that traveled from NY and other locales to show their wares. I fell in love last night with lolabean designer Tiffany Bean’s signature creation, sparrow hoop earrings, so I bought a pair that sports crystal quartz, and I am going to flaunt them all over town. Stephanie Miller of Stephanie Brooks Designs displayed an alluring assortment of handcrafted jewels. Miller is settling into Atlanta after a recent move all the way from Arizona. Y’all make her feel welcome, and go check out her site. Jana Camp’s healing jewelry has an interesting facet as some of her necklaces do not connect with a fastener, but rather one end loops around the other in the front of the neck to form something of a loose tie, resulting in a stunning appearance. August Miller exhibited a fine blend of delicate stones matched with industrious chains, and, of course, boutique shops such as Veruca and Bill Hallman wowed guests with uber-cool trends in threads. My BFF fell in love with the sooki coat at Bill Hallman, but alas, it was too tight in the bosom. Why the hell are haute clothes built for tiny girls, anyway? Thank goodness for Little in the Middle, a denim and pants company that builds clothes for the girl who can own up to having an ass and a small waist without giving passers-by a show of butt cleavage. Salespeople were walking around with “I Got Booty!” t-shirts, and it boosted my serotonin levels to belong to this new pack of feminine ass pride. Hailing from NY with roots in Saigon, Paris, Amsterdam, and Miami, Huong Caitlin Nguyen, the founding owner of Perfume River, heads up the company known for its impeccable embroidery on soft-but-sturdy bags and clutches made from satin, silk, and taffeta. What with all of these inspiring designers and more plus a killer goodie bag to boot, suffice it to say Girls Night Out rocked.<
