My Sisters’ Room (222 E. Howard Ave., Decatur), currently Atlanta’s only lesbian bar, is closing its doors on December 15th so that the entire street can be mowed down for, you guessed it, more condos. Rumor has it the owner plans to purchase a bar up in Marietta (rhymes with Le Scuzz) but is considering something closer to its old stomping ground—possibly on Clairmont Rd. I’ve been going to MSR since it was above the Highlander in the Midtown Promenade. The first time I went in there, I was serenaded by an older woman with a guitar at the bar while I waited for my margarita. Her face was leathery from years spent in the sun, but her blue eyes twinkled, and I was reminded why I love the South. The people are kind and genuine. I hope My Sisters’ Room’s new pad is even better than the old one, but I’m going to miss that patio. Hopefully they’ll throw one hell of a closing party.
